ON THIS day three years ago, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev died aged 91.
Gorbachev is known for ending the Cold War without bloodshed - but also for failing to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union.
A Kremlin spokesperson said that President Vladimir Putin expressed “his deep sympathies’ over the passing of the Soviet statesman. Then US president Joe Biden paid tribute to him as a “man of remarkable vision”.
