JOYCE EYES GOLD AFTER BIG SCALP
Irish Daily Star
|September 12, 2025
PATSY Joyce aims to become Ireland's first men's Boxing World Championships gold medallist since Michael Conlan after taking out a former champion in the quarterfinals to guarantee a podium place.
The 19-year-old is the youngest member of Ireland's 17-strong squad in Liverpool and helped make Wednesday a day to remember with Joyce, Aoife O'Rourke and Grainne Walsh all securing medals in the World Boxing Championships.
It is a decade since Ireland last won three medals at this level, when Conlan won gold in Doha, and eight years since a senior men's medal of any colour was brought home, when Joe Ward won silver in Hamburg.
