Sisters abused by rapist Richard Brennan slam 'global' 8yr jail term
THREE sisters who were raped and abused by their brother are pleading with the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal the leniency of his eight-year prison term.
Earlier this week, former priest Richard Brennan, 64, was sentenced to a “global” term of nine years with the final year suspended after pleading guilty to six counts of rape against his sisters Paula Fay and Catherine Wrightstone and 18 indecent assaults on them and their sister Yvonne Crist between 1978 and 1985.
Brave Ms Fay told this paper yesterday that she and her sisters are pleading with the DPP to appeal the sentence after the judge decided to run Brennan's sentences for each of the offences concurrently.
"Immediately after the sentence, my feeling was that I actually felt that a global sentence of nine years was like he [the judge] was passing sentence on just one of the victims and not including anyone else," Paula told us.
"It was like in some way, 'Ah sure the rest doesn't really matter'.
