Irish stars Shake up Golden Globes

Mescal & Buckley nominated for roles in playwright drama

IRISH stars Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley have both been nominated for a Golden Globe for their roles in the film Hamnet.

The drama, which is based on a novel by Co Derry author Maggie O'Farrell, features Mescal as playwright William Shakespeare and Buckley as his wife Anne Hathaway in a fictionalised version of their relationship.

Co Kildare's Mescal, 29, is nominated in the best performance by a male actor in a supporting role in any motion picture category alongside Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn for their turns in One Battle After Another.
