HOW SHOCKING CASE UNFOLDED

Irish Daily Star

IT HAS been a week when the eyes of the world have been on Ireland - for all the wrong reasons.

Last Friday, gardai issued an appeal for information about little Kyran Durnin, who was first reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth, on August 30, last year.

That case, first revealed by this paper, shocked the world and it was upgraded to a murder in October 2024. The remains of the boy have never been found.

But little did we know that at around the same time gardai were appealing for help in solving the mystery of what happened to Kyran, another equally horrifying case was emerging of another kid around 40km south of Drogheda.

For it was on Friday afternoon last that a worker at Tusla, the child and family agency, notified gardai in Swords in north Dublin that serious concerns were raised for a boy who had been living in the Donabate area.

Tusla had earlier been contacted by staff from the Department of Social Protection after it became concerned when a woman from the area tried to claim a social welfare allowance for a boy aged around seven.
