LET'S remember that Arsenal's impressive 3-0 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday night was a Champions League quarter-final.

GUNNER HAVE TO WIN IT NOW

So when Gunners fans were saying it was one of the greatest nights ever, I get worried.

It reminds me of Arsene Wenger's statement that qualification for the Champions League was the equivalent of winning a trophy. It isn't.

No one ever erected a statue of a manager for finishing fourth.

So, if Mikel Arteta ever wants to look at a bronze statue of himself outside the Emirates Stadium then he needs to do a lot more than win a first leg of a quarter-final.

Even though Arsenal dazzled against Real on Tuesday, that victory will mean little if Arsenal fail to win the competition.

Arsenal are a massive club, not just a big one. Thirteen Premier League titles and 14 FA Cup triumphs is a manifestation of that statement.

The trophy they have won most in their history is the FA Community Shield.

That says a lot.

So there was a reason why Arteta was brought in and it was because he was a young coach considered to be ruthless.

After Wenger, and then Unai Emery, they needed someone like that.

But in a week when Mo Salah has signed a new contract that is going to earn him €2.3million a month because he wants to win even more league titles, the penny should have dropped in north London.

Arsenal have not won the league in 21 years. It won't happen this year, either.

So, if Arsenal fans are in dreamland over a Champions League quarter-final first leg win, then they are fooling themselves.

Because they have failed in the League yet again.
