Take care' plea as we're set to smash past hottest day ever from the 1880s

- BY PAT FLANAGAN

Fryest temp ever...

THE country could see the highest ever summer temperatures over the weekend - beating a record set well over a century ago.

Met Éireann meteorologist Lina Hughes said they "can't rule out" the possibility of breaking the July record of just over 33C recorded in Kilkenny in 1887.

Ms Hughes said that temperatures will be above 27C everywhere today but in some parts they could reach 30C to 31C degrees or even higher.

High temperature warnings have been issued by Met Eireann as the country faces into the warmest weekend in years.

A warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary was in place from midday yesterday." But a nationwide high temperature warning kicks in at 12pm today and will continue until 6am tomorrow.

As the country prepares for the very warm weather, the RNLI urged families to put safety first.

RISKS

The RNLI asked those planning a trip to the coast or inland waterways to make sure they keep themselves and their families safe.
