ALERT Recalled spinach

A MAJOR new food recall has been issued for 10 items sold in supermarkets across Ireland, with the public being urged not to eat the affected products.

It comes after Listeria monocytogenes were detected in spinach and mixed leaves products.

Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause serious illness, particularly in vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, babies, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

The time between exposure and first symptoms averages three weeks, but can stretch anywhere from three to 70 days.
