File to DPP over garda in fatal 'hit-run' crash

THE Garda Ombudsman Commission investigation into a fatal hit and run which claimed the life of a popular GAA coach almost a year ago has been completed, we can reveal - with a file now gone to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Niall MacEneaney, 42, was struck by a private car that is registered to a serving garda who was off-duty at the time on the Rathmullan Road in Drogheda, Co Louth, last year.

The popular GAA coach was left for dead in the early hours of St Patrick's Day in 2024.

Last April a member of An Garda Siochana was arrested in connection to the investigation into the horror incident that claimed Mr MacEneaney's life.

The officer arrested has been interviewed by the Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), who led the investigation into the incident.
