EIRE OG EYE A DOUBLE

Tempers flare during yesterday's final

DREAMS of a first Clare Senior Championship double in 96 years are still firmly on track as Eire Og held off Clooney-Quin in Ennis to win a first hurling crown since 1990.

Becoming the 12th different winner of the Canon Hamilton Cup in 22 years, the Ennis side grasped that opportunity with both hands yesterday after leading from the ninth minute.

Led up front by captain David Reidy, reigning National Hurler of the Year Shane O'Donnell, overall championship top-scorer Danny Russell and man-of-the-match Marco Cleary, Gerry O'Connor's side also had superb defensive displays from Aaron Fitzgerald, Liam Corry, Oran Cahill and Robert Loftus as they closed in on a 15th county triumph.
