You really are in a Catch-22 situation with transport in Ireland. We are all told we should move to public transport as much as possible, but unless you live in the better serviced parts of Dublin, you cannot depend on buses and you won't find trains, dependable buses or light rail.

Cork city had a severely disrupted bus service again yesterday because there was a big hurling match on.

Every time there's a big game in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, every route in Cork city and county is affected. For the last big game in April, Bus Eireann basically said they would be leaving people stranded all over the city. They had a month to put some emergency plans in place for Cork Vs Waterford but of course, this is Ireland so it just happened again.
