Inquest told of injuries after being struck by stolen car

A MAN killed in a hit-and-run incident had to be identified by DNA due to the extent of his injuries, an inquest heard yesterday.

Pedestrian Michael 'Mikey' Farrelly, 40, was killed when he was struck by a stolen vehicle on Coast Road, Baldoyle, north Dublin, at around lam on July 17, 2024.

The driver and his passenger, members of the so-called 'Lucky Dip' mob - a teenage criminal gang specialising in car theft - failed to remain at the scene.

At the opening of the inquest into Mr Farrelly's death at Dublin District Coroner's Court yesterday, evidence was heard that Forensic Science Ireland had to carry out DNA testing to confirm the deceased's identity.
