Arsenal don't play attractive football. Sometimes they don't play any football at all

ARNE SLOT may be a year at Anfield.

- eamondunphy

He may have won a league title. But yesterday felt like the first time this was his Liverpool team.

Last summer he inherited Jurgen Klopp's players, who carried Liverpool to their 20th league title.

Yesterday felt different. There were three new signings Slot's signings - in the starting XI.

Now that's a lot. So much can go wrong when you change too much too quickly.

Alex Ferguson mastered the art of squad building. All those years in management taught him that you had to strike the right balance in your squad between those who knew the ethos of the club with new signings who could offer fresh ideas.

By the time he won his first Premier League title, he had his formula perfected, continual evolution meaning there was never a need for a squad revolution.

That's largely why they stayed on top for so long.

I thought about this yesterday when I saw the team sheets.

Liverpool opted for three of their summer buys Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike and Arsenal did the same with Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Victor Gyokeres.

My instinct was to fear for Liverpool, and here is why: Kerkez is 21, Andy Robertson, 31. Aside from being ten years older, is there any other reason why Robertson is on the bench? He's a leader; Kerkez a Premier League novice and while he did reasonably well yesterday, he wasn't up against muchMadueke being a decent rather than a game-changing player.
