APOLOGY TO FAMILY OF HIT & RUN VICTIM

Driver who killed Shane should have been in prison

THE Government has apologised to Shane O'Farrell's family following his death in a hit and run in 2011.

While Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan did not announce the public inquiry they had been calling for, the O'Farrell family said last night that they were satisfied with their apology.

But they insisted that there are still unanswered questions about the Monaghan man’s death as they called for the publication of GSOC and Garda reports.

Mr O'Farrell, 23, died while cycling near his home in Carrickmacross on August 2, 2011. The car driver Zigimantas Gridziuska left the scene but later turned himself into the Gardai.
