THEATRE OF DREAMS

- BY JEREMY CROSS

WHO is next to board the tragic managerial roundabout at Manchester United? Who knows...

But perhaps the more pertinent question should be, which manager worth his salt would be willing to walk through the doors of the Manchester madhouse?

Bookmakers have gone into a frenzy, offering odds on a list of potential runners and riders, which is longer than one released ahead of the Grand National.

All because United chiefs finally realised they backed the wrong horse when it came to Ruben Amorim.

To such an extent it is understood co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his fellow suits decided to sack Amorim BEFORE United's game at Leeds.

The feeling in the Old Trafford boardroom was that the Portuguese coach had proven too stubborn and immature to handle the demands, expectations and intrusion which come with managing one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

But we've been here before.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, United have had nine different managers since, either permanent or interim.
