Reality has Don out the door with 2025 awards
Irish Daily Mirror
|December 18, 2025
Straight talking...
LIKE all the most brilliant ideas, it's simple once someone has shown you how it's done.
Twice this humble column has been nominated for an Irish journalism award.
And twice gone home with one hand as long as the other.
But now I see that instead of sulking and wallowing in imposter syndrome, there was another more fiendishly smart way to deal with the disappointment - invent your own makey-up award!
It's a stroke of genius that could only have come from the upper percentile of world intellects.
Enter presidents Donald Trump and Gianni Infantino.
When faced with the dilemma of how to suck up to the man who has sycophants lining around the block to kiss his ass, Gianni scooped the Jules Rimet of bootlicking.
Trump covets the Nobel Peace Prize even more than trinkets like a free 747 jet from Qatar or a gold crown from South Korea.
THROAT
Maybe it’s because two of his arch-nemeses - the European Union and Barack Obama - both have one adorning their shelves.
Taking a leaf straight from his master's playbook, Infantino concluded if you can't beat 'em...then sod reality and spoof like hell.
