BOB MACINTYRE admits he thought he had won the US Open.

But he believes he now heads to next month's Open at Royal Portrush bang on target for his Major moment after being denied glory at Oakmont.

The Scottish star came spectacularly close to a phenomenal triumph before he was thwarted by JJ Spaun's fabulous finale.

MacIntyre defied brutal conditions and rain delays on the final day to move to the brink of grabbing the title.

He believed his time had come when, as he ended his final round joint top of the leaderboard, his closest rivals were falling away one by one.
