MEMORIAL IS MOOTED FOR TRAGIC TODDLER

'SENSE OF SADNESS' Donabate councillor Corina Johnston

Skeletal remains of a child, believed to be Daniel's, were discovered by gardai searching for the little boy last Wednesday.

The area is marshy wasteland along the Portrane Road in Donabate, north County Dublin.

Local councillor Corina Johnston said the idea of a memorial to Daniel could be looked at in the "medium to long term" but added that the tragedy was "still so raw."

She has also called for a public inquiry, voicing concern that Daniel appeared to have been in the care of the State for a time.

Cllr Johnston is also asking for support for the wider community as they try to come to terms with the tragedy.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror at an emotional vigil for Daniel on the town's green on Sunday, she said: "There is a deep sense of sadness and heartbreak around the place.
