2016 victory at K-Club gives 7/2 Rory an edge

- BY DENIS KIRWAN

RORY McILROY is the star attraction at this week's Amgen Trish Open at the K-Club and will be joined by his Ryder Cup teammates, Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton.

Mcllroy is the short priced 7/2 favourite as he bids for a repeat victory on the course where he memorably won the Irish Open for the first time in 2016 with a stunning birdie-par-eagle finish.

Should the World No.2 bring something resembling his A-game, the rest of the field are likely to be playing for second place.

Since last year’s runner-up finish to Rasmus Hojgaard at the Amgen Irish Open at Royal County Down, Rory has won four times — including completing his career Grand Slam at the US Masters at Augusta - and he has a further five top five finishes.

Tyrrell Hatton is 12/1 second favourite. Hatton operates on the LIV Tour these days but has failed to win an individual LIV event this year.

He has won just once since joining the breakaway tour and that was in Nashville in June of 2024.
