FELLOW COACHES KNOW WHY GERS WANT SHANGHAI BOSS

- BY FRASER WILSON

RANGERS are on the cusp of naming former Ibrox defender Kevin Muscat as boss - and parallells will continue to be drawn between him and former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

Muscat succeeded Ange as manager at Melbourne Victory in 2013 and again at Yokohama in 2021 - winning titles with both.

And Gordon Forrest, who faced Postecoglou's Hoops when he was part of Robbie Neilson and then Steven Naismith’s Hearts coaching team, can see similarities in their playing beliefs.

He said: ‘Ange has always had an attacking style, quite aggressive in possession while pressing hard and fast out of possession.

“You can see that with Kevin and his Shanghai Port team. They want to win.

“They're on the front foot. They're a big team, a top team. They don't sit back. They go for it. They press in possession. They want to play well.

“They want to play fast. But, again, the big thing is he understands Rangers. He's played there and been a winner there. I can see why he’s a great option.”

Last season, Muscat became the first ever manager to win titles in Australia, Japan and China and also broke the record for the number of goals his team scored in the Chinese Super League.
