KELLIE'S COMMUNITY VOW AFTER WINNING 60KG TITLE

KELLIE HARRINGTON won her 12th Irish Elite boxing championship title at the weekend - and immediately swept it under the carpet.

- BY DEREK FOLEY

Her boxing plans are now on hold as the double Olympic gold medallist is threatening to turn full-on revolutionary!

"I've no plans for my future in the ring," she said of September's European Championships after reclaiming her 60kg title with a unanimous win over Kellie McLoughlin.

"I have a really hard fight on my hands at the moment, I'm fighting to save The Strand football pitch at the back of Portland Row.

"There is a lot at stake because I have yet to meet one person who says it's a good idea to build on a community place. I think if they decide that they're going to build on it there is going to be a revolution!"

Feelings have been running high after the proposed building of 49 housing units for which planning was granted in late 2025 but which is the subject of an appeal; Troy Parrott is another supporter of the local campaign to preserve the green space/community facility.

"We are in the middle of an appeal at the moment now and we want people to understand that, basically, this is wrong.
