MAY'S unprecedented balminess has been confirmed with Met Eireann declaring that spring 2025 was Ireland's best ever for sunshine.
The national weather service revealed in its Provisional Weather Statement for spring 2025 that Ireland “recorded its highest average temperature and total hours of sunshine for the season” in 126 years of records.
It contrasts wildly with the forecast for the coming week - which shows “unsettled conditions for the weekend and into next week with rain or showers each day”, said Met Eireann.
The recent weeks of glorious weather that basked the country in welcome sunshine followed a grey and wet period during which Dublin Airport recorded its joint worst ever spell of no sunshine at all.
