JAVIER MASCHERANO praised the commitment of Lionel Messi after Inter Miami were held to a draw in the opening game of the Club World Cup.
The Argentine (above) was unable to inspire his side to victory against Egyptian champions Al Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Inter goalkeeper Oscar Ustari saved a penalty in the first half from Egyptian forward Trezeguet while his opposite number Mohamed El Shenawy denied Messi in stoppage time, turning the former Barcelona star's effort against the bar.
