D'Arcy is backing Gavin's bid

GORDON D‘ARCY has backed Jim Gavin to revolutionise sports thinking on the island if he wins the Irish Presidency.

Fomer Dublin manager Gavin (inset) has emerged as a shock candidate to succeed Michael D Higgins and ex-Ireland rugby international DArcy says he is just the man to breathe new life into our games - starting with the grass roots.

Darcy said: “The fundamental thing for me is coaching underage coaches how to actually coach the skills to ‘play’ sport, as I think we have the focus on winning at too young an age.

“Tm not saying we shouldn't keep score, I'm talking about actually giving kids the skills not just to just win a game but so they can actually enjoy it.
