IRELAND has reached a record-high of homelessness, with 11% more people living in emergency accommodation compared to last year.

In November, 16,996 people were homeless across the country, according to Department of Housing figures released yesterday.

This does not include people sleeping rough or couch surfing.

Child homelessness and pensioners seeking emergency accommodation is also on the rise.

There are now 5,321 children officially recognised as homeless, which is up 14% compared to November 2024.

There are also 14% more pensioners without a home compared to last year's statistics.
