Irish journalists who reported across the world celebrated

- BY DANNY DE VAAL

AN exhibition that will honour the “courage and commitment" of Irish reporters who work overseas is set to open next week.

The showcase, called Frontlines: Irish Journalists Abroad, will welcome members of the public from Friday, October 10, at EPIC The Irish Immigration Museum in Dublin.

The event, which aims to highlight Irish writing and reporting across the globe, is curated by Dr Catherine Healy and supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

It will run until March 31 next year and aims to give the public a glimpse into the lives of the Irish men and women who travelled far and wide in search of stories - from Europe and the Americas to Africa and the Middle East over the last two centuries.

Punters will be brought through five themes which aim to encapsulate the full scope of Irish reporting.

The first is Reporting War, which discusses the role of journalism in highlighting the human costs of conflict.

The next is Ahead Of Their Time, which looks at the pioneering journalists who broke social and professional barriers.

Community Ties focuses on writers and newspapers who gave Irish communities a voice.
