A COMMUNITY has been left reeling from a devastating mass shooting and arson attack on a US church that left at least four victims and the gunman dead.

Former marine Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, was named by cops as the prime suspect in Sunday's attack on the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

A gunman drove a vehicle through the front door before opening fire with an assault rifle and setting the building ablaze, police said.
