PRELAND'S CALL Charlie Smyth was the matchwinner
FORMER GAA PLAYER Charlie Smyth was the toast of New Orleans on Sunday after a stunning home debut in the NFL.
The Mayobridge man booted a 47-yard field goal with just six seconds left in front of over 70,000 fans at Caesars Superdome to beat Carolina Panthers 20-17.
It was just a third start for the 24-year-old in the NFL with New Orleans Saints, and Smyth said his remarkable rise is beyond even his wildest dreams.
Saints linebacker Demario Davis interrupted a post-game interview with Smyth to proclaim, 'they should make a movie about this guy'.
