Plea to be safe as pedestrian injuries on rise
GARDAI have put in place a safety operation as the bank holiday weekend begins - with extra patrols and checkpoints on what can be a dangerous time on the country's roads.
While the traffic enforcement operation will mean a greater Garda presence on the roads and motorways, the force and the Road Safety Authority are urging all road users to take extra care to stay safe.
Gardai will focus on enforcing speed limits, detecting impaired driving, and ensuring compliance with phone and seatbelt laws.
As of yesterday, 138 people have lost their lives in road traffic collisions on Irish roads.
