Blades take a battering as new recruitment process crashes

- BY JASON MELLOR

SHEFFIELD UNITED'S summer recruitment has been artificial - but by no means intelligent.

Under-fire boss Ruben Selles admits the clubs Al-led transfer business hasn't been up to scratch as he tries to lead a revival after a bruising start to the season.

United's bad-tempered midweek Carabao Cup exit at Birmingham came on the back of a 4-1 opening day hammering at home to Bristol City, as his side were booed off by their own fans in a nightmare first week for the new head coach.

The high-profile departures of Brazilian midfielder Vinny Souza to Wolfsburg, defender Anel Ahmedhodzic to Feyenoord and striker Kieffer Moore to Wrexham has left Selles having to deal with some gaping holes in his squad that are yet to be filled.
