Tragedy when on May 25, 2013, her son Dean Fitzpatrick, the brother of Amy, was stabbed to death by Mahon at his flat at Burnell Square in Malahide, north Dublin.

Mahon turned himself in to gardai the following day and told of how he had taken a knife off of Dean during an argument about a bike - and that his stepson then ran into him and was accidentally stabbed.

In May of 2015, while awaiting trial, Mahon married Audrey - who stood by him despite her son's death. In 2016 Mahon was handed a seven-year sentence for Dean's manslaughter - and served five due to remission.
