How Mallanna Sagar, Kaleshwaram's largest reservoir irrigated 12 lakh acres, lifted Manjeera river

Mallanna Sagar reservoir, the largest reservoir constructed under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), near Thoguta in Siddipet district, had become a key component in Telangana's ambitious irrigation and water supply plan.Mallanna Sagar played a crucial role in KLIP's integrated water network, as it supplied water to Kondapochamma Sagar, Gandhamalla, Baswapur and Singur reservoirs, reviving the Manjeera river system, and provided 30 TMCft of water for Hyderabad's drinking and industrial needs.
While the reservoir directly irrigated 1.65 lakh acres, it also helped stabilise irrigation across 12 lakh acres, including its own command area. It supported numerous minor irrigation tanks across Siddipet, Medak, Sangareddy, Yadadri-Bhongir and Rajanna Sircilla districts. Constructed at an elevation of 550 metres above sea level, water had been pumped into Mallanna Sagar from Ranganayaka Sagar using eight pumps.
