Gurgaon seeks to recruit 6,000 civil defence volunteers

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar on Monday appealed to the residents to enroll as civil defence volunteers, with a target of increasing the number of personnel from the current 350 to more than 6,000.“The district administration is confident of at least 6,000 new enrollments... The volunteers will be taught firefighting and survival skills,” Civil Defence Chief Warden Mohit Sharma told The Indian Express.

Asked why there is a need to recruit more such volunteers at a time when India and Pakistan have come to an understanding to stop military activities, Sharma said, “They don't need to be enrolled only during war or extreme emergency situations...
