A new heroine sets off on an impressive odyssey in a surprisingly good debut from Myrkur Games

- CHERYL MULLIN

AFTER racing through the ancient ruins of a castle there's a point right at the start of the game where you stop and look out across the landscape beyond its walls.

The view is, quite frankly, breathtaking, a river running deep below, mountains dotted across the skyline and a blue, crystal like structure glowing in the distance.

I'm a few minutes into Echoes of the End and I'm already being drawn into this stunning looking action-adventure game, which incredibly is a debut title from developer Myrkur Games.

You play as Ryn, a Vestige who can wield powerful magic and who is roaming the ravaged plains of Aema protecting Wards - the glowy blue crystal like structures that dot the map.

While the game starts with Ryn's brother Cor at her side, it's not long before he's kidnapped by a rival faction and the focus of the story shifts to one of rescue.

Traversing the landscape is really fun, feeling like a heady mix of Tomb Raider and Uncharted.
