Ian Watson admits he spoke to the likes of Kevin Sinfield, Lee Radford and Martin Gleeson ahead of his move into rugby union, a decision he calls 'one of the best' in his career.
The ex-Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils boss has since returned to rugby league with Hull KR as an assistant coach to Willie Peters, with Danny Ward and Shaun Kenny-Dowall having departed following the 2025 season.
Watson joined Major League Rugby side Seattle Seawolves in November 2024, working as an assistant to Allen Clarke - a former Ireland international who spent 15 years coaching at Ulster Rugby before joining the Ospreys in 2017, and then later to the United States.
"I got a call probably about a month after I left Huddersfield, asking if I was interested in going over to America and coaching over there," Watson told the Mail.
