Regular Ashes to be on the calendar?

November 11, 2025

THE Rugby League Ashes were revived in 2025 after a 22-year hiatus, with the suggestion now that England and Australia won't have to wait long for their next Test series.

Reports from Down Under have stated the next series will be held by Australia - as soon as 2028.

There is a growing desire to get the Ashes back as a regular feature, with Kangaroos head coach Kevin Walters airing his desire to see the concept played 'every two to three years'.

And now the planners are set to oblige in what they have labelled a 'four-year' cycle to 'rebuild a lost rugby league narrative.' That would see the Ashes played two years after every World Cup tournament.

The Ashes were scheduled for 2020 before Covid brought the idea to an abrupt end, but there’s been no delaying proposed plans now for the next event, ensuring a huge gap in the series won't derail the international calendar again.
