I've set myself a very high bar

Comedian Jessica Fostekew chats to MARION MCMULLEN about Gladiators, podcasts and life as a soccer mum

Yeah, that's what I'm going for. I've set myself a very high bar with that because I do feel like we are in an age of quite extreme international affairs and global relations and everything feels very high stakes and very scary.
It's tricky for comedians like me who do eyes-wide-open type comedy about the state of the world and not just the totally fluffy stuff that you lose yourself in. I wanted to make a show sort of loosely about tolerance and look at how I have inherited my tolerance or lack thereof in my own ancestry.
It's also a bit of a love letter to my extraordinary Nana who I still had up to last year. I think she was one of the most tolerant and relentlessly positive people, in a genuine way, that I have ever encountered and on the flip side of that I have got a very funny, generous dad, but who is the angriest man you could imagine.
I've definitely innately inherited his kind of unhelpful rage which actually is quite helpful for comedy.
Will your dad be coming along to the show?
