VOLUNTEERS WERE CALLED TO TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS

- By DEBORAH HALL

A YACHT owner has praised the “incredible” volunteers of Humber Rescue after a life or death situation.

The man and his wife were saved after their vessel began taking on water.

“Without them, there's a real possibility we might not be here today,” the man said, praising the swift actions of the independent lifeboat.

This was after the Humber Rescue volunteers had earlier been on a shout to save two casualties whose vessel had become stuck in mud and who were running out of food and succumbing to the cold.

The incidents, which happened in the space of 12 hours, were described as “exhausting” and “intense” by the Humber Rescue Coxswain involved in both rescues.

It turned into one of the busiest mornings of the year for the lifeboat volunteers.

The first call came at 1.23am when Humber Coastguard tasked Humber Rescue to reports of a damaged vessel aground near Brough. A crew of three launched immediately but, with water levels too low to reach the casualty vessel, a complex operation began.
