First third has shocked league

THE BLACK AND WHITES HAVE SURPASSED EXPECTATION
ONLY the most optimistic of punters would have had Hull FC sitting in fourth place on the table exactly one third of the way into the 2025 season, but after nine rounds, that’s where Cartwright's side currently stands.
And despite a tough month in April that has threatened to derail positive emotion after three defeats from four, that fact shouldn’t be lost for a side very much written off this year.
So to say Hull, who have only lost to Hull KR and Wigan so far, have exceeded expectations is an under-statement. And they still have so much room to grow.
The challenge now, with exactly two-thirds of the season remaining, is not only to keep it all up but also raise the bar further. That's where Cartwright and his troops will really earn their salt, but there’s no doubt that the first third of the season and all the effort, grit, and determination that have gone with it have left everyone wanting more.
The key, and as ever with this club, is to ensure the season doesn’t wither away and instead grows into something they can be truly proud of.
On that front, Hull, vastly improved this term as a more connected, professional and experienced side, start a fresh month with a Magic Weekend clash against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday afternoon before a welcome week off to regroup and reassess.
Getting two points up in Newcastle is a must, especially given the fact Hull will face tougher and more adverse moments later in the season, moments that will challenge their current fourth-place status. But rather than get ahead, it's one game at a time - a cliché approach but one that has served them well so far.
