Cartwright: We know Robins are beatable
Hull Daily Mail
|April 19, 2025
Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has stated that there was no malicious intent in Cade Cust's sending-off challenge - and has declared the 'mitigating circumstances don't seem to matter too much' these days.
Cust was dismissed for a high collision with Hull KR full-back Arthur Mourgue in the first half of the derby, with the half-back accidentally colliding in the in-goal with the Frenchman when contesting a ball after a Will Pryce kick.
But after video referee replays, Tom Grant issued a red card for Cust, with Hull playing for over an hour of the derby with 12 men.
Rovers ran out 28-14 winners, with Hull showing a lot of spirit despite their numerical disadvantage.
They brought the score back to 16-14 with second-half tries through Tom Briscoe and Jordan Rapana, with Jack Ashworth dotting down in the first half. Cartwright called Hull's display 'one of the better performances he's been involved in at any club but aired his frustrations in other areas.
"I haven't had a good view of it, so I don't really want to comment other than to say there was nothing deliberate," Cartwright told the Mail post-match when asked about Cust's red card.
