Cartwright praises FC defensive solidity

JOHN Cartwright has singled out the defensive side of his Hull FC team's performance as the catalyst for Saturday's 34-2 victory over Warrington Wolves.
-
Cartwright's makeshift and young side repelled pressure before opening up at the other end. And while it may still not be enough to gain a Super League playoff place, with Wakefield Trinity also defeating Hull KR in the penultimate regular season round, there was still satisfaction at seeing out another victory.
Cartwright said: "It was a performance we've been trying to put on at home for a while. They worked really hard defensively and I think that was the key.
"It was all Warrington early on, but we defended our line strongly and the enthusiasm of youth - it's hard to put a figure on how important it is. They were excited about playing. I think we had 11 local Hull boys playing.
"When we announced the young fellas were going to get a crack, there was a really good feel around training all week, and again, the most pleasing thing was that we held tight on our own try line right throughout the 80 minutes.
