Workers protest at site of Ukhand tunnel collapse

A group of workers on Wednesday held a protest over the delay in evacuation of 40 labourers trapped inside an under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, even as the rescue operation entered the fourth day.

A portion of the tunnel, being built between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway, caved in around 9.30 am on Sunday following a landslide, trapping 40 workers from various parts of the country. On Tuesday night, the auger machine deployed for drilling the rubble to prepare an escape passage for trapped labourers did not work.
