Will buy farm produce at MSP, says agri minister amid farmers' protest
Hindustan Times
|December 07, 2024
The Narendra Modi government has fixed minimum support prices (MSPs) of crops to give at least 50% returns and will purchase all farm produce at these rates, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday as farmers were taking part in a march to the Capital to demand legally guaranteed prices.
Asked by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on what the government was doing on the MSP issue, Chouhan said: ".We will increase production, reduce the cost of production, give a fair price for the production. If there is loss in the crop, it will be compensated under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (a state-run farm insurance scheme)."
