Mumbai thump Bengal for fourth win of Ranji season
Hindustan Times
|February 05, 2024
Seamer Mohit Avasthi built on an impressive Ranji Trophy season with his third five-wicket haul in five matches as Mumbai romped to victory by an innings and four runs against Bengal in their Group B clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
-
Avasthi claimed 7/52 in 16 overs to help the visitors bowl out Bengal for 209 while following on in their second innings. Bengal's effort was only marginally better than the first innings, where their total of 199 was nowhere near sufficient in response to Mumbai's 412.
Avasthi finished with a match haul of 10/115 having taken 3/63 in Bengal's first innings.
Mumbai's dominant display gives them their fourth win in five matches, the only setback so far being a narrow defeat to Uttar Pradesh in the fourth round of the competition. They are well-placed to top Group B and advance to the quarter-finals.
