Modi sharpens attack, says MVA fighting over CM post
Hindustan Times
|November 13, 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed three public meetings in Maharashtra, accusing the Congress of speaking the "language of Pakistan" by seeking to restore Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of being the "biggest player of corruption" and of stalling development in the poll-bound state.
Ahead of the November 20 assembly elections in Maharashtra, PM Modi, who addressed poll rallies in Pune, Solapur and Chimur in Chandrapur district, also alleged that there was infighting within the constituents of the MVA for the chief minister's post.
"Nobody can bring back Article 370, we have buried it deep in the ground," Modi said in Pune. "The Congress has passed a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to again implement Article 370. Those who are showing Constitution books to the country and distributing blank books in Maharashtra, I would like to ask them, they (Congress) have ruled the country for 6-7 decades, but why was the Constitution made by Babasaheb Ambedkar not implemented in the whole of India?"
Modi asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre "abrogated Article 370 and hoisted the tricolour."
On August 5, 2019, the Modi government abrogated Article 370, which accorded special status to J&K, and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union territories of J&K and Ladakh.
