Hamas has agreed to release the remaining hostages from its 2023 attack on Israel and accepted key elements of a US peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump, offering uncertain hopes for ending the two-year conflict in Gaza even as Israeli bombardments continued on Saturday.
The militant group said it was prepared to free the last of the hostages but indicated that other aspects of Trump's 20-point proposal would require further negotiation, including demands that Hamas disarm completely.
The developments mark the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in the two-year conflict, with Hamas for the first time signalling willingness to release hostages without demanding a complete Israeli withdrawal.
