FM wears a sari gifted by Madhubani artist

Dulari Devi, a Padma Shriwinning Mithila painter from Bihar, met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharam when she visited Madhubani district in Bihar last year and gifted her a sari featuring an intricate Madhubani painting. Dulari requested that the finance minister wear it during her budget speech.
On Saturday, the finance minister obliged, wearing the off-white handloom silk sari with fish-themed embroidery and golden border during her 74-minute speech, a gesture that highlighted the significance of the acclaimed artform and was a nod to the Bihari craft months before the state goes to the polls.
"I had never dreamt of seeing my sari reach the portals of Parliament. It is a great gesture on the finance minister's part to bless me," she said, while speaking to the media.
