DU student killed for objecting to harassment of his girlfriend

According to police, the victim, identified as Nikhil Chouhan, got into an altercation with one of the suspects, Anas, who allegedly harassed his girlfriend last week. Anas gathered three of his friends and murdered Chouhan, who studied in DU's School of Open Learning (SOL) to exact revenge, said investigators.

Manoj C, deputy commissioner of police (southwest), said the police arrested Anas at 11.15pm on Sunday, adding that the police are on the hunt for the other three, who have been identified.

Anas told the police he is also a SOL student.

"Around 12.30pm on Sunday, some students waylaid the victim outside the college gate and stabbed him in his chest. The victim was taken to nearby Charak Palika Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," he said. SOL classes are held on Sundays.

Chouhan, a BA (political science) student, was a resident of Paschim Vihar and was a model and actor, said his relatives and friends.
