Hindustan Times
|October 20, 2023
Incidents of Maoist violence have decreased by 52% during the nine-year rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modiled government at the Centre, Union home minister Amit Shah said on Thursday as he accused the Congress of "encouraging" Maoism and raised the Bharatiya Janata Party's poll pitch for Chhattisgarh.
Shah also accused chief minister Bhupesh Baghel of turning Chhattisgarh into an "ATM for the Congress" and running a "government of scams".
Addressing rallies in Jagdalpur and Kondagaon of poll-bound Chhattisgarh, Shah promised that the BJP will make the entire state free of the Maoist menace. "In the nine years of the Modi government, incidents of (Maoist) violence have declined by 52%, deaths (in Naxal violence) came down by 70%, civilian deaths deceased by 68%, while the (number of) Naxal-affected districts declined by 62%," Shah added.
Polling for the 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh is scheduled to be held in two phases on November 7 and 17 and votes will be counted on December 3. The Congress is looking to retain its government in the state.
