Thrown open to tourists recently, scenic hamlets along the Line of Control in North Kashmir have racked up record-breaking tourist arrivals. Here's where to go
The alpine peaks, composite culture and divine geological landmarks of Kashmir have long drawn travellers. In 2022, about 1.88 crore tourists visited this land of mountainous valleys and high plateaus. But this winter might be the busiest yet for Jammu and Kashmir since the Department of Tourism recently cleared the way for visitors to explore destinations along the LOC in North Kashmir. This year, a record-breaking 1.27 crore tourist arrivals have been recorded in the state already, with figures expected to cross 2.25 crore. Here are some previously inaccessible regions you can now explore, all located a few hours away each from the capital, Srinagar, which serves as the nearest airport and railhead.
